Enbridge Warning Tag
An Enbridge warning tag, often called a red tag, is put on a water heater or furnace by a licensed technician to show that the piece of equipment is no longer safe to operate.
The most common reason for a furnace or water heater to receive an Enbridge warning tag is because of a carbon monoxide leak. If a licensed technician detects that there is a defective heat exchanger then they are obligated to place an Enbridge warning tag on the equipment as it can cause serious health issues for the homeowner and family using the equipment. The two types of Enbridge warning tags
An “A” warning tag means that the technician has found a carbon monoxide leak which means that your equipment is considered to be an immediate danger. Your water heater or furnace will then be red tagged/warning tagged and the utility company will be notified to shut off the natural gas in your home.
A “B” warning tag means that your water heater or furnace is not an immediate danger and you will be given 35 days to repair or replace your equipment. If the equipment is not replaced or repaired within this time frame then the utility company will shut off the natural gas to your home.
