An Ontario Liberal MPP introduced a private member’s bill Monday to ban door-to-door sales of certain products. The bill, Door-to-Door Sales Prohibition Act, 2016, calls for the banning of door-to-door sales, leasing or rental of air conditioners, water heaters, furnaces, and water treatment devices.

I agree that all door to door sales should be banned, all those companies are scammers. I had Simply Green Home Services knock on my door trying to pitch me a furnace rent for crazy rental fee they guy gave me misleading information and was lying from my face that he is from gas company and that my furnace was not up to code even though its only 5 years old because it is mid efficiency. The guy was so pushy that I told him if he doesn’t leave my house now I will call the police. Those guys are so annoying they knock my door almost every day. Ban Ban ban!!!

Yes! 100% .  I was trick into signing a contract at my door after I let one of the rep in to test my water. He told me that he was from Union Gas and wanted to check my water tank. to make the long story short, I am now stuck in a ten year rental agreement for a hot water heater which I could buy outright for a quarter of the price.

1-You have to be smart about letting people in your home, but I don’t think that door to door sales for home services should be banned. It is everyone’s choice to let a sales agent in your home or not. I’m actually thankful that door to door guys came to my house and explained the benefits of replacing my old water heater. Turned out my old rental one was 17 years old and I’ve been leaving in my home for 12 years and Direct Energy never came to service it or replace. When technician came to install it they even found out that there was no glue on the exhaust pipes connections in many places and they were leaking gas. I agree that there is a lot of door to door scam but at the same time as a consumer you can learn a lot of benefits from those sales guys. If door to door sales will be banned it will create a monopoly where you don’t have as much choice anymore and will be left with only few companies offering the service, well guess whats going to happen. Simply be smart with the decisions you are making and don’t sign anything at the door till you review the documents, but don’t blame sales agents when you didn’t do your due diligence.

I personally don’t care but I think customers should have a choice of service and service company. If you like the deal at the door go for it but if you are annoyed of door to door guys coming to your door put a “No Soliciting” sign. Why ban door to door tactics when you can have a good use from it and always get a better deal when you bargain. I’ve personally purchased some products from door to door sales agents but some I would not even let into my home. It is my home and I let in whoever I want and no one can push me to buy something if I don’t need it.
