I just bought a house In Toronto and my hot water heater is old. I want to have it replaced to a tankless hot water heater, however when i had technician come to my house he said it is impossible to do because my gas line was too small in diameter for tankless unit. When i asked him if he can change it, he said he needs to do it all the way from the gas meter, which is actually right outside of the house near the same wall where my current tank is, its about 15 ft of gas line, he quoted me almost 1,000$ for the job. I think its a rip off, any suggestions where i can get this done cheaper?

Normally extra ft of gas line costs about $20-$35 installed so whoever gave you the estimate is definetly tryig to rip you off. Get a quote from other companies, i am sure you can have tankless hot water heater installed if they simply change you gas line to 1 inch and if you are saying it is very close to the current unit then it should not cost you that much
