Hi guys
my hot water heater leaked and flooded my basement this week, when i called Direct Energy they came and fixed the tank but told me that they are not responsible for any damages. My floor is completely ruined, Direct Energy told me to call my home insurance but my home insurance will go up if i report this. I tried talkking to a manager at Direct Energy but they are refusing to do anything about it. Please help what can i do about this?July 30, 2012 at 12:59 am #5532love4UMemberTry getting to a higher management, since you are renting they should be responsible for this, its their unit that caused you problems.Make a big deal out of it. I am surprised they only fixed it for you and didnt replace the tank to a new one. The worst case scenario you will need to go through your home insurance.

Your best option is to go through your home insurance as waiting for Direct Energy to do it for you can take a while or might never happen. You might want to consider changing a water tank supplier

You can try to go through small claims court. I suggest first get a new water heater and do not go with the same company pick a better supplier and dont foeger to tape the damages and take lots of pictures. Have either your home insurance fix it or get a contractor and then send this to small claims court
