Furnace repairs and costs rise as temperature drops in Ontario
Some people in Toronto, GTA and especially in the north part of GTA have been feeling the effects of cold weather even inside their homes.
Furnace companies have been very busy in the past week trying to get to every customer needing heat. Angela Brawn has been using her stove to keep her home warm for 2 days after her furnace stopped working. At one point Angela said her temperature dropped to 120 C and she kept her stove running for few hours to warm up her home. Angela says she called few companies who promised to send technicians but for some reason they never showed up. She finally was advised by one of her friends to call DeMark Home Ontario who sent their technician Robert that same day to fix her furnace.
There are number of reasons why furnaces can stop working including ice build up in the chimney, dirty filters, overheat and many more because it is working much harder during cold weather. Robert said that many customers forget to get annual inspection done on their furnaces before the winter season and it often causes equipment failures. If problem can be detected before the cold season it will save customers the trouble of furnace failure in the winter. However if you are facing yourself in no heat situation turn on your stoves, electric heaters, fireplaces.. anything to keep your place warm as the house temperature can decrease very rapidly.
It may take few days to find and order a specific furnace part needed to fix the equipment. In those cases some customers either have to be prepared to stay without heat for a few days or be ready for an upgrade to a new high efficiency furnace. The volume of Furnace repairs is very high during winter months, said Robert, he personally had to deal with over 50 furnace failures in the past 2 weeks.
