What is HVAC condensation pump?
HVAC condensation pump is a very important part of heating and cooling system.
HVAC condensation pump is a type of pump that pumps the water (condensate) produced in the heating and cooling system. Condensate pump has 3 main components: pump, reservoir and float. Condensate pumps work very simple as the water originates in the heating and cooling system that is connected to the pump it will fill the tank reservoir up to a limit. When this limit is reached in the reservoir the float switch will activate the pump to suck out and remove water from the reservoir tank till water level is lower and not insufficient for floating switch to activate the pump. HVAC condensation pump extracts the water through the common plastic tune to a drain or a sink on your home.
HVAC condensation pump are normally very reliable but like any equipment require periodic maintenance to prevent failure and further damages to your home. If condensate pump is not operating properly it can lead to unhealthy mod and mildew growth in your house. You should clean and inspect your HVAC condensation pump on regular basis. You heating and cooling contractor can perform maintenance on the condensate pump when performing annual furnace tune up.
If you decided to clean your HVAC condensation pump it is important o turn it off or unplug from power at the main breaker box. For a proper cleaning disconnect the plastic tubing connected to the reservoir tank and rinse the tank with clean water. Clean the reservoir tank from any dirt, debris or algae that could have accumulated inside. Next, remove any blockages that may have developed over time and rinse condensate pump with water.
