HVAC Spring Tips
Spring is almost here. This means that soon it will be time to switch over from heating your home to cooling it instead! And, with warmer weather, it can actually be more confusing to decide best HVAC spring tips.
Do you turn it on? Do you turn all of your systems off? Do you open the windows?
Well, here are the spring tips you need to keep in mind when it comes to your HVAC equipment.
Change the Filters
AC filters work hard to remove contaminants like dust, pet hair and pet dander from the air, but they can get clogged causing your air conditioning unit to work harder than it needs to and decreasing its efficiency. To get the most out of your AC unit, you should change the air filters every month or two, depending on your location and living conditioners.
Clean the Outside
Head outside and clean the compressor. This unit can get covered with fallen debris, like leaves, cones and plant parts, or even get clogged with floating seeds and fluffy seed heads. Blocked airflow means less efficient operation and, in extreme cases, can make your unit work so hard that it gives out. Keep grass clippings away from your condenser and consider scheduling a thorough cleaning with your local heating and cooling contractor.
A Programmable Thermostat
If you do not have a programmable thermostat, have one installed this spring. You will enjoy better control of the temperature in your home, and possibly lower energy bills since you can set the temperature so that your system runs less when you are not there.
Schedule your annual HVAC tune-up
Annual air conditioner service/check up is important to make sure your system is working efficiently and not wasting energy
Should you turn off your system completely?
Did you know that it is always a better idea to keep your system running longer at lower levels than to shut it off completely? That is because on/off cycles can be energy-consuming. Also, when you turn off your system it is not circulating your indoor air, which can lead to stagnant air and poor indoor air quality.
