Enbridge water heater rental

What is Enbridge water heater rental program?

Many homeowners in Ontario rent their hot water heaters for years and often do not even step down to the furnace room or check their bills until hot water heater starts to cause troubles, leaks or stops working. This is the time when most homeowners call a technician to check up their unit and many learn that their rental hot water heater was very old and passed its lifespan a long time ago or sometimes was not even installed up to code and they get a red tag. Once they have a diagnosis the most common reaction is to call Enbridge and complaint about the rental water heater service because it is assumed that customers are under Enbridge water heater rental program. This is when homeowners learn that Enbridge actually does not rent hot water heater or service gas appliances.

Enbridge water heater rental billEnbridge water heater rental program is simply a program under which Enbridge allows third party water heater rental companies to use their billing system for a certain fee and bill their customers under the Enbridge gas bill.

If you are like many homeowners in Ontario you were probably under the assumption that you are renting your hot water heater from Enbridge because you receive your monthly rental water heater charges with Enbridge bill. However if you take a closer look at the Enbridge water heater rental charge under the other companies section you will learn that your rental provider is not Enbridge and can be companies such as Enercare, Reliance or any other provider. This is the company you will need to contact for service, repair and water heater replacement issues. Today many other companies can bill customers for their services on the Enbridge Gas Distribution bill as a part of the Open Bill Access Program.

Enbridge water heater rental program where Enbridge itself rented water heater ended in 2002 when Enbridge Home Services sold their rental water heaters to Direct Energy who was later sold to Enercare in 2014. Since 2008 as a part of the Enbridge Open Bill Access Program, customers now have an option to upgrade to a brand new energy efficient hot water heater with other water heater providers such as Summitt Home Services, National Home Services and other third party providers and still stay on the Enbridge water heater rental billing program. This means bill still comes from Enbridge but if you require any service you will need to contact your rental water heater provider for any repair or maintenance related issues. You can also learn more about Companies Participating in the Enbridge Billing Service and understand your Enbridge Gas Bill.

Some customers who are currently renting their water heaters from Reliance Home Comfort may be receiving a separate Reliance bill. In this case those looking to switch back to Enbridge water heater rental billing program can do so by upgrading to a new energy efficient water heater with a rental provider who is participating the Enbridge Billing Service. However it is best to consult with your existing water heater provider prior to removing your old water heater to learn about any if any removal or return cost.
