I have 11 years old water heater in my house, rented from Direct Energy.
See picrure attached. I called Direct Energy Water heater service asking them to upgrade it to a new hot water heater because i have a low pressure and it constantly runs out of hot water but the main reason was it started leaking. Direct Energy sent a service guy to my house who fixed the leak but they refused to install a new hot water heater for me. Direct Energy told me that everything is fine with my hot water heater and that this unit is good to go for another 5 years. What can be done in this situation i dont want to be stuck with this old piece of garbage?August 10, 2012 at 12:55 pm #5843mrmikejonesMemberCall Direct Energy back, and ask to speak to the supervisor.

Dont waste your time and money with Direct Energy if they do not want to do it, there is always somebody else who wants your business. If you live in Toronto and require a hot water heater upgrade just call up different companies even google them and see who can gove you the best monthly rental hot water heater rate in Toronto and go with them, they’ll do it free of charge. Even check out rental rates on this Direct Home Ontario’s website they’ve got some good deals

If you are tired of renting just buy your own hot water heater, and return this old rental hot water heater back to Direct Energy and they will take it back, you dont even have to pay for it. Or you can have Direct Energy pick it up from your home for about $75. If you dont want to own hot water heater then find some other company who will replace it for you and they will take care of returning your old tank back.
September 30, 2012 at 9:15 pm #6355Ipad73MemberThey are trying this trick on many people, they do not want to replace hot water heater untill it is 16 years of age or older or breaks and they have no choice but to do it. Get a different supplier who’ll do it for you free. You dont have any contracts with Direct Energy so you can easily terminate your rental with them
September 30, 2012 at 9:33 pm #6357maxputMemberI had similar problem they didnt want to replace my 10 years old hot water heater, so i called another supplier-Summitt Energy who came and replaced it free of charge and i got a cheaper rental fee. Then i had to call Direct Energy back and ask them for the removal authorization number for my hot water heater and after they found out that i switched companies they tried to convince me to go back to them and that they would even come and replace my new Summitt tankd with their new. What a scam they even tried to match their rental fee. They didnt want to replace my tank in the first place but when i told them i switched companies they wanted me back and were even to give me a new unit.
September 20, 2014 at 11:31 pm #11359AnonymousInactivethey told me my 10 years old tank didn’t need an upgrade and that i should only call them once it breaks or i would qualify for a free upgrade in 5 years. Well other company was happy to get me as a new customer, so bye bye Direct Energy. And now they are selling their home service and leaving Ontario business. What kind of service is that….
