Danger of Natural Gas Leak
Gas lines experience wear with age meaning that dangerous gas leaks can happen if you don’t take precautions.
To avoid a dangerous natural gas leak, it’s crucial that your gas lines be repaired or replaced multiple times during your home’s life. But how do you know if your gas lines are in need of a repair or replacement? For an accurate assessment of your home’s gas lines and equipment as well as any necessary repairs, call a trained HVAC technician. The trained HVAC technicians at DeMark Home Ontario can get your gas lines and HVAC equipment back in their best shape.
If you didn’t already know, you can identify a natural gas leak by the rotten egg odour which it emits. But do not wait to smell the rotten odour to call a technician. A natural gas leak can be dangerous and fatal, so be precautious and call a technician if you haven’t had your gas lines looked at in a while.
If your home is experiencing a natural gas leak, the procedure to follow is:
● Open all doors and windows and evacuate the area
● Call Enbridge Gas or Union Gas (based on who is your local gas utility)
● Do not use any electrical appliances, cell phones, garage door openers etc. near the gas smell
● If you smell a natural gas leak outside, do not start any motors or motor vehicles near the area of the gas odour, do not smoke and do not use any lighters or matches
● If you hear hissing sound leave the area immediately
If you smell gas leave the area and call your gas utility
